Adrienne once dreamed of being a pilot, she wanted to fly around the world and see all she could see. The trouble is she’d glance out the window and see a bird, cloud, tree or something else, and its visual appeal would draw her eye and distract her. And during all of this, how could she land a plane safely? So, leaving the flying behind she sought to capture all of those visual distractions, all the sights and images by following her passion for art. Adrienne would create, draw, paint and allow the distractions to become masterpieces.
To begin this venture, Adrienne traveled far away from her small hometown in upstate NY and received formal training at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Being too clumsy to study the trapeze and that field not actually being offered, even with the circus connotation to the school name, Adrienne chose to study illustration.
Upon completion of her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Adrienne continued studying and received a Master of Fine Arts in teaching and began working as an educator. Really this seemed like a perfectly good way to head back to kindergarten where playing, snacks, naptime and drawing pictures are encouraged each and everyday. The picture books Adrienne read as a child were still fresh in her mind and she sought to create her own. Everyday she read books to her students and couldn’t wait to see her name emblazoned across a book cover.
In 2014, Adrienne’s name appeared right there under the title, ABC’s Around Baltimore City. She had written and illustrated this book as a collaborative project with Baltimore City Public Schools. This book allowed Adrienne to be chosen to be a presenting author at the 2015 Baltimore Book Festival. Just about the same time her second book would be published.
Exciting opportunities lie ahead for Adrienne and her work. While she is seeking these, she can be found traveling around the world and visiting just about as many places as she can get to. She has been to 5 continents so far, aiming to see her 6th very soon. Hiring her to illustrate some penguins and talking about just how cute they wobble is probably not enough to get the summer, beach loving gal to Antarctica but anything is possible. Her suitcase unpacks in Baltimore, MD, where a turtle, cat and fish are always glad to have her home.
When she isn’t teaching, writing or illustrating books, Adrienne paints murals and art for display or for sale in galleries and other venues. She loves baseball, cookies and keeping her inner child alive by balancing the seriousness of adulthood with laughter and a touch of silliness.
